Jurrien founded Deacon Engineers in 2009 specialising in mechanical and structural equipment design. He developed the business to provide design, verification, assessment and engineering solutions for plant, equipment and structures for the mining, water, waste, mineral processing, including OEMs supporting them, that need equipment and support for existing aging equipment and/or design registered plant, with offices in Perth and Melbourne.
Jurrien has over 30 years’ experience in Mechanical Engineering in detailed design and manufacture of materials handling and mechanical equipment, working for large engineering design and fabrication companies within Western Australia which serviced the mining, mineral processing, oil and gas and transport industries. His experience in equipment design has enabled him to develop Deacon into a specialist engineering consultancy with particular expertise in Finite Element Analysis, Fatigue Analysis and Fracture Analysis. He has been involved in the designs of crushing plant, apron feeders, hoppers and structures, cranes and specialist lifting equipment. He has undertaken the design verification of several quayside container cranes and has recently completed the design for a mobile crushing plant capable of 3000tph. He is regularly engaged by clients to problem solve critical plant reliability issues, ranging from equipment vibration, premature fatigue cracking by providing repair scopes and management programs as well as develop designs and concepts for new equipment.
As Principal Mechanical Engineer of MA Deacon Engineers, Jurrien is involved in client relationship management, mentoring engineers and providing input into critical designs. Jurrien is a Director of MA Deacon Engineers and McDowall Affleck and has previously served on not-for-profit Boards in the education and aged care sectors. He has also been a member of The Executive Connection for over 13 years.
